Jerez de La Frontera…home of the Andalusian Horses

Hi speed Renfe AVE train in Madrid
We arrived in Jerez de La Frontera after a train journey from Madrid. When we
Hotel Guadalete Swimming Pool, Jerez de la Frontera Spain
got to the Hotel Guadalete there was a wedding reception happening.  It was a nice hotel and had a lovely swimming pool (although it was a very cold pool, but that didnt stop us going in!)

Sasha at entry to The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Jerez Spain
In Jerez they have a place called Fundacion Real Escuela Andaluza Del Arte Ecuestre – The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art.

We went there twice, the first day for the guided tour and museums and the second

Arena at The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Jerez de la Frontera
day to see the show called “How the Andalusian Horses Dance”. The tour was brilliant, we had a personal tour guide to show us around the splendid facilities. The videos and exhibitions were state of the art, the newer buildings and exhibitions completed only recently, in 2005.

The school has 150 Andalusian Horses and students from all over come to learn riding, training, making tack and grooming. The school has Royal patronage and is public – the students do not have to pay to attend, but have both riding and written tests for entry (and it is referred to as the Harvard of equestrian).  We thought that was pretty special.

Przwalski\'s Horse at Real Escuela
The first day we went we had a look at the Przewalski’s horse, which is a wild horse, looked at all the museums and we even got to go to the stables and pat the horses. They also had some horses doing rehabilitation walking, using a mechanised roundabout. Then we saw the training in the main indoor arena, which was brilliant.

The next day we saw the show. It was soooooooo good!!!!!!!!!
The horses were amazing!!!! They did the capriole where they jump in the air and kick out their legs. There were also some horses with carriages, and they did some amazing things!

Sasha with an Andalusian Horse at The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art
Sasha had 3 favourite horses. One was a grey, the other a cross-breed
Black Andalusian horse at The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art
and was brown, and the other one was a black horse.  Sasha said if she owned the grey she would call him Majestic, because he was. We all didn’t want to leave Real Escuela.  It was a great and beautiful place.
