I remember lounging 5 years ago in one of their plazas/courtyards watching a bunch of friendly old men playing chess with those 2-3 foot tall chess pieces, with the fortress as the backdrop. I too chose the sing-the-song-in-my-head approach, versus going on the tour, as the late night partying with new-found hostel buddies didn't allow me time for any morning tours. Wonderful place.
