Dunfermline
Dunfermline
(Pictures to come!!
We had a couple of days in Dunfermline. It rained…oh it rained. Just as well the Wimbledon finals were on. But we did have a plan – if raining we shall head to the cinema and see Kung Fu Panda. So we did and enjoyed it. Funny being in a cinema with lots of Scottish kids giggling and exclaiming (and kicking the dam seats!!!) Two Scottish mums nearly had fisticuffs over kids kicking seats, which added to the entertainment.
Sasha was delighted to see lots of bunnies appear on the hill outside our hotel and we got a running commentary of their movements.
The next day was finer, so we headed into the town centre and visited Dunfermline Abbey, where King Robert the Bruce was buried (minus his heart) and also where Lois’ Mum was christened – in different eras of course. Sash did a lovely brass rubbing picture of RTB.
What a divine place, we wandered around the gardens in the sunshine and Sasha got a peacock feather, lying on the grass. Had lunch at the Abbots house, then walked down to the Andrew Carnegie museum and viewed the wee hoose where he was born. Amazing. We thought…just imagine, one family living together in one room! – then realised…oh, that’s what we are doing (mostly) for 7 months.
It started to rain as we walked through the park along the burn, which added to the atmosphere under the canopy of leaves. Inquisitive little squirrels popped out from behind trees to say hello (actually, probably to get some food of which we had none.)
Had a great walk along the paths and found our way back to town as the rain came down once again. Found a brilliant little café called Fresh. They had a book swap (you bring a book in and swap for another) internet wifi, art gallery (some nice nudes) , lovely cakes although we didn’t partake, and Illy coffee (gotta love that!) What a cool place.
